Understanding Export Filters

Learn how to use filters effectively to find your ideal B2B prospects

Understanding Export Filters

Filters are the core of DealGate's lead generation platform, helping you narrow down your search to find the exact business contacts that match your target audience. This guide will walk you through the different filtering options available and how to use them effectively.

Filter Types

Industry/Business Type

The Industry filter allows you to select specific business sectors you want to target. DealGate uses Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes to categorize businesses, which gives you access to a comprehensive range of industries.

Pro Tip: Instead of selecting broad industries, pick specific sub-sectors that closely align with your ideal customer profile for more targeted results.

Revenue Range

This filter enables you to target companies within specific revenue brackets. Whether you're looking for startups with modest revenue or enterprise-level organizations with substantial turnover, you can define your ideal range.

Key Points:

  • Revenue data is updated regularly from company filings and other reliable sources
  • You can select multiple revenue brackets to create a custom range
  • Revenue is typically shown in GBP for UK-based businesses

Employee Count

The Employee Count filter helps you target organizations based on their size. This is particularly useful if your product or service is designed for companies of a specific scale.

Geographic Location

The map filter allows you to define specific geographic regions for your search. You can:

  • Search by city, region, or postal code
  • Draw custom areas on the map to target specific neighborhoods or business districts
  • Exclude certain areas from your search

Advanced Filters

AI-Powered Natural Language Search

For more nuanced searches, use the natural language filter. Simply describe your ideal customer in plain English, and our AI will translate this into appropriate filter combinations.

Example queries:

  • "Tech startups in London with less than 50 employees"
  • "Manufacturing companies in the Midlands with revenue over £1M"
  • "Financial services firms that have been operating for at least 5 years"

Export Accuracy Settings

When creating your export, you can select from three accuracy modes:

  1. Balanced (Default): The recommended setting for most users, providing a good mix of quality and quantity
  2. Strict: Only includes contacts that precisely match your filter criteria, resulting in fewer but highly targeted leads
  3. Smart: Uses AI and intent signals to intelligently expand your search beyond the exact filter criteria, potentially discovering valuable prospects you might have missed

Filter Combinations

The true power of DealGate's filtering system comes from combining multiple filters. Here are some effective combinations:

  • Industry + Revenue: Find companies in your target sector with the budget for your solution
  • Geographic + Employee Count: Target businesses of a specific size in your service area
  • Natural Language + Manual Filters: Start with an AI-generated filter set and then refine manually

Saving Filter Presets

Once you've created a filter combination that works well for your business, you can save it as a preset for future use. This is especially useful for:

  • Running similar exports on a regular basis
  • Testing slight variations of successful filter combinations
  • Sharing effective filter sets with team members

Filter Limitations

Keep in mind that using too many restrictive filters simultaneously might significantly reduce your potential results. If you're seeing very few results:

  1. Try broadening some of your criteria
  2. Remove the least important filters
  3. Use the "Smart" accuracy setting to expand your search intelligently
